The history of Jaeger-LeCoultre began in 1925 when David LeCoultre agreed to a merger with Edmond Jaeger, previously the sole supplier of movements to the Cartier watch company. This led the new company to be crowned Jaeger-LeCoultre for all legal and practical purposes.

In the year 1833, a young 30 year old Antoine LeCoultre, who was likewise the son of a watchmaker known as Jacques LeCoultre, began a workshop at Le Sentier.
